BARTHÉLÉMON, FRANÇOIS H. 1741-1808


François Hippolyte Bar­thé­lé­mon

Born: July 27, 1741, Bordeaux, France.
Died: July 23, 1808, London, England.

Son of a wig maker , Bar­thél­é­mon start­ed out as an ar­my of­fi­cer in an Ir­ish bri­gade, then went on to be­come a pro­fess­ion­al vi­o­lin­ist on the ad­vice of the Earl of Kelly. He moved to Eng­land in 1765, and by 1770 was lead­ing the Vaux­hall Gar­dens Or­ches­tra. He al­so comp­osed op­er­as and other mu­sic.
