BARTHÉLÉMON, FRANÇOIS H. 1741-1808
François Hippolyte Barthélémon
Born: July 27, 1741, Bordeaux, France.
Died: July 23, 1808, London, England.
Son of a wig maker , Barthélémon started out as an army officer in an Irish brigade, then went on to become a professional violinist on the advice of the Earl of Kelly. He moved to England in 1765, and by 1770 was leading the Vauxhall Gardens Orchestra. He also composed operas and other music.
